Pairs Well With Bourbon!, 29th Mar 2017
Reviewer: The Cigar Authority
The cold draw of the Sun Grown version of the cigar sees the bourbon notes however they aren’t as dominant as on the Connecticut. The primary notes are nutty and earthy with some spice on the lips. The aroma off the foot of the stick is that of heavy mesquite that is amazing.
Once the foot is toasted and the cigar is lit the cigar has some notes of maple and walnuts to start. Through the nose and on the aroma there are some spices and a bourbon like finish. The bourbon like finish is dominant, but there is also a nice nuttiness and spice present giving it a wonderful complexity.
The second third sees the cigar develops more of the bourbon notes with a dominant nuttiness on the palate. There are some subtle spices on the finish and on the retrohale. The aroma of the cigar is intoxicating and enjoyable. As the second third of the cigar closes some sweetness begins to emerge.
In the last third of the cigar some notes of chocolate develop that take over as the dominant note with an espresso finish. There is some spice present through the nose, but the bourbon barrel aging really shines at this point on the retrohale. The finish of the cigar is moderate in length.
