What a surprise. La Gianna's split personality, 11th Oct 2021

I originally bought this cigar because I wanted something to compare with another United Cigars product, the ultra-premium Atabey. At less than a third the price I was expecting it to reinforce the "value" of the nearly triple double-digit stick. Well, it was certainly a pleasant surprise. Of note: United Cigars also distributes the Classic series of truly value-priced cigars that have also impressed me.

I had read that this cigar features a sweetened tip. For whatever reasons they can come up with, reviewers seem to be put off by sweetened tips, but they are hesitant to say so because many of their readers enjoy them. I would be in that group.

Notice that I said "would be". That's because this cigar isn't sweetened at all. Not the tip, nor the foot, nor anywhere betwixt or between. Just a nice, very even Connecticut wrapper rolled as nicely as anyone could want. When clipped, the draw is perfect and there's so much nice bakery bread flavor pre-light that I hesitate to fire it up.

But of course I do. And that's when I am introduced to one of the most amazing cigar experiences I've ever had. If you're a smoker who doesn't retrohale, you'll find yourself smoking a delicious Connecticut stogie, with a mild but richly complex flavor that starts off tasty and just gets better as you go along. No pepper blast.

At all.

But if you do retrohale, you'll find yourself smoking an entirely different cigar. Pepper galore! Pepin and Jaime Garcia would be proud! Where did this come from?

And if, like me, you mix the two styles, you find that you can adjust your smoke to exactly the way you like it!

WTF?

On top of that, this La Gianna has the sharpest burn line I've ever seen. And as of the end of the first third the ash has yet to fall.

I was expecting to find a nice, mid-range Connecticut-type cigar that would be good to smoke with my morning coffee, but what we have here is a true A-lister. I was being very careful not to let the ash drop, both
